Festes de Sant Joan

A couple of days ago I came back from my trip to Menorca. It wasn't a very long stay this time, because I was visiting one of my best friends and we all know that if you want to stay best friends, you must not stay too long.

We went on a canoe trip from Cala Galdana to Cala Mitjana en visited some caves along the way.

It was also the week of the Festes de Sant Joan (celebrations of Saint John), which in Menorca, the town of Ciutadella to be specific, has to do a lot with horses. The most beautiful horses in the world you can find on the island of Menorca; slim and totally black. Pura raza Menorquina, they're called. I'm not a particularly big fan of horses, but this breed is fabulous.

The horses main feature is that they can walk on their hind legs (not all the time, of course, but a couple of steps). They're being trained for that all year long and the more steps they can make, the more the crowd goes wild.

 Dulces and nuts

And my personal favorite: pastissets (authentic Menorca cookies)

  3. I have never been to Menorca, it looks like a such a beautiful place to visit and I think it's not as touristic as Mallorca. We are in the South of Spain, so for us it would be a short flight. Now I really feel like going!!! Here they also celebrate the Night of San Juan, it's on the 23rd of June and everyone goes to the beach and lights up candles, it's really lovely!

    1. Yes, it really is! Although I think it looks a lot like Mallorca. I go to Menorca almost every year, since I was five, but I can't get enough of the island. I've traveled to a lot of other places, but Menorca is the only place I always come back to. I just love that little island!
