Frida Sugar Skull

You may know by now that I just love Sugar Skulls.  In the past I made skulls in all forms and of all materials. This time I made one of polymer clay. And because I both like sugar skulls and Frida Kahlo, I made a Frida Sugar Skull.

The three below are just the ones I showed on my blog before.

Name Bracelet

Today I saw this adorable little letter beads and I just couldn't resist to buy them and make a little name bracelet for my daughter. The beads are exactly her colors, so small chance she will not like it.

Instruction how to make macramé bracelets are all over the internet, if you would like to make your own.

Crochet Peter Pan Collar

Tonight I found this cute pattern for a crochet Peter Pan Collar at Crafty Queens and because I love anything vintage related as it comes to clothes, I immediately had to make one, too! I altered it a little bit (added pearl beads for example), so it has become my own style, just the way I like it.

This week the Birthday Dress I made for my daughter was featured by All Things Fee, by Crafts a la Mode, by The Cottage Market  and also by Thrifty Thursday!

Thanks, Felicia, Linda, Andrea and Lindsey!!

Aloha Beach Bag

Another variation on the Lunch Bag!

It's made from a pattern I found at Pink Penguin, that came with a very easy step-by-step tutorial on how to make the Lunch Bag. About a year ago I made my first Lunch Bag with this pattern, made of jaguar pluche and pink polkadot cotton.

A couple of weeks ago I showed a Lunch Bag I made of faux patent leather and black/white gingham.

This week I used the basic pattern to create a variation on the before made Lunch Bags. The inside of this bag is made of pink cotton, the outside is made of burlap. I myself always like the combination of the somewhat boring color of burlap with a bright color. I did this combi before when I made a Toy Sack for my daughters and still like it.

Instead of sewing the handles I used bamboo handles that I once bought for another bag, but never used. To embellish the bag I bought a haircomb and took of the frangipani flowers. To attach the flowers to the bag I made a strip of polymer clay and punched little holes in it, so I could sew the strip to the bag like a button. With superglue I sticked the flowers to the strip.

I love the Hawaiian look of my new Lunch Bag. I have been to Hawaii once and dream of going back ever since. Meanwhile I keep myself busy crafting Hawaiian related things :-) .

Vintage Gingham Shorts

In about two weeks we are going on vacation and yesterday I realized I barely have shorts. Now that I think again: I don't own any shorts. Skirts yes, dresses yes, but shorts..., no. And on vacation, visiting attractions like castles, cathedrals, mediaval little towns and such, it's so much more comfortable to wear shorts than pencil skirts or swing dresses, I think. So I searched for a pattern in the pattern books I already had and looked in my fabrics for a nice gingham and to my luck I found a red and white, that was just enough for the pattern I wanted to make. And here it is:

Many more of this shorts will be made in the nearby future, I think!

Birthday Dress

I mentioned it a couple of times before, but in august my oldest daughter turns 6! The last two weeks I worked on her Birthday Dress and today I finished it!

The pattern is an old one from Ottobre that I altered a little (in the original pattern the front is the back and vice versa, instead of seven ruffles the original one only has four volants and the original is made of only two different fabrics; the original pattern also had long sleeves, but I like no sleeves at all more).
The flowers of the green top dress are red, pink and turqoise, so for the ruffles of the underskirt I chose that three colors. Each ruffle is a different fabric.

I really love how the dress turned out, if I may say so myself!
And even more important: my girl loves it and wanted to wear it immediately!

Ice Blue Shawl

For a crochet project that I never ever finished, I bought this ice blue yarn and for months I didn't really know what to do with it. In the end I tried a bolero, but after several attempts that all turned out to be not quite what I thought they would be, I made this little shawl.

I like the shawl and the pattern, but to be honest I still don't know what to do with it. I don't have any other clothes in this color and for some peculiar reason I think that if something in the accessoires you wear is blue, at least one other accessoire has to be blue, too. So I guess I have to buy ice blue shoes or something before I can ever wear this shawl.

A Geek in Glasses featured my Love Heart this week!

Thanks, Stephanie!

Birthday Cupcakes Again

Two days ago I showed you how I thought the Birthday Cupcakes would look that my daughter would treat her classmates to, but in the end this is how it all turned out:

For the boys

And for the girls:

Where do you leave your stuff when the fridge is full of Birthday Cupcakes?

And this how it looked in the end:

Yes, I skipped the little birthday banners. Too much work.

Birthday Cupcakes

In august my oldest will turn 6! Wow, 6 already, I can't believe it! In a couple of days she will have vacation and after the summer she will go to elementary school. New class, new kids. She really would love to treat her old school mates to a birthday cupcake before they all leave for  summer vacation, so I baked this pink and yellow cupcakes for her. This is just the try out; if she likes it, this will be The Treat.
